My Thoughts on SKYFALL Let Me Show You Them

Dame Judi Dench Who Is Very Excellent

– Judi Dench. Judi Dench. Judi Dench. JUDI DENCH. I have loved this woman since seeing A Room With A View when I was 14. When Albert Finney handed her that plaid scarf in Skyfall, I heard her speaking as Eleanor Lavish: “Observe here. I never venture forth without my mackintosh squares…You never know when you’ll have to sit on damp ground or cold marble.”

– The Adele song was decent. It’s kind of stuck in my head, for what that’s worth.

– I liked the array of Bond girls. The dark-haired one with the claws was super babealicious. Though Moneypenny is also pretty foxy. But she’s not really a Bond girl, right? Oh whatever, at least she shaved off that awful old man stubble Daniel Craig was rocking for the first third of the movie.

– Ralph Fiennes! You are awesome! I like it when you play normal people! Shave yr head though!

– I did enjoy The Blond Javier Bardem.

– Also, why do British manors need gamekeepers? What’s the point of that again? I mean, in Lady Chatterley’s Lover, Sir Clifford cannot hunt, really, due to his war-injured legs. And in the case of Skyfall, there was no one living at the manor, anyway So, what? Is ‘gamekeeper’ a euphemism or something?

– Blond Javier Bardem’s seekrit island lair has an interesting backstory, too.

– Overall: Super fun. Not as tight as Casino Royale, but leagues better than Quantum of Solace.

I also wasn’t clear that the Bardem character was gay. Was that ever overtly stated? I think it was just a detail, actually. Something to show Bond’s range (he’s even done Teh Gay, woo, he’s so sophisticated!)

I love that the Daniel Craig iteration shows Bond’s origins. I like to know where he comes from. I’ve never liked the glib and debonair Bonds – they gross me out, aren’t sexy, etc.

Though I did like how he adjusted his cufflinks after landing in the middle of the derailing train.

Plus the plot wasn’t so convoluted that you were like whuh? Which is a plus. I just want to be mesmerized by stunts and insanity, mainly, not try to figure out why Agent X is interested in the Bolivian water supply, blah blah…

    If I may:

I really dug the thematic stuff of age versus youth, innovation versus tradition.

It’s good to know that ol’ James will be more psychologically healthy in the next movie due to him dealing with his childhood demons!

Some of the cheesy throwaway lines were REALLY cheesy and throwaway, like: “Always has to make an entrance” and the like.

Wait, was being gay supposed to be part of Bardem’s madness? Cuz, uh, that would be not cool.

Holy stunt: Had to laugh out loud when he ran the motorcycle into the embankment, thus launching himself onto the train. Good times.
